Quarterly Recap: ACT PoE, Cybersecurity Certs & Exciting Case Studies

The first quarter of 2019 delivered an exciting few months for Vanderbilt with many developments across our Access Control and Intrusion Detection portfolios. Check out some of our main reflections from January to March this year.

SPC Connect receives over 32,000 login requests everyday day. An average of 24,000 push notifications and 12,000 emails are sent from the solution per day, with roughly 85,000 commands being sent from Connect to SPC panels each day through Vanderbilt’s bespoke communications protocol, FlexC. The app has a 5-star rating on iTunes and is a top performer in Northern Europe in particular.

SPC Connect allows installers to do more with their business and do more remotely. In the past, an installer would have to get in their van and make a site visit to investigate any complaints or issues from their customer. Bar changing the battery of an SPC panel, everything else can be operated remotely, from anywhere, at any time, regardless of distance.

Vanderbilt’s Seismic Detectors are designed for cost-effective applications and are in stock now. All known types of intruder attacks generate unique vibration patterns. Each attack tool, whether they are drills, flame cutters or explosives, produce specific mechanical vibrations, giving it a unique acoustic fingerprint. The timing, frequency, and amplitude of these acoustic fingerprints are used to convert mechanical and thermal vibrations into electrical signals. 

When Seismic's bimorph sensor detects noise or vibrations, their characteristic values are analyzed precisely using a Senstec digital signal, based on unique algorithms developed and compared to those threat profiles, to determine whether an alarm should be triggered. The frequency of these signals is then measured and checked against that of known attacks, to decide whether to alarm or not. Thus, routine “noises” such as traffic or electromagnetic interferences, causing structure-borne sounds to be propagated through the protected structure, will not cause false alarms. 

SPC system was accredited to the NF A2P Cyber-RTC cybersecurity standard from the CNPP. The SPC intrusion system was tested by CNPP to ensure that it meets the latest needs for cybersecurity. This is part of Vanderbilt’s continuous endeavor and commitment to work with approval bodies to ensure both the best in class security and the confidence that your security system is secure.

The PoE Ultra hardware in the controllers ensures support for all power requirements. This includes local door accessories and components such as card readers, door locks and request to exit buttons. PoE Ultra ensures that all of this is accomplished without the need for additional Power Supply Units (PSUs). Essentially, this saves the system user time and money. Moreover, as this is all powered over the Ethernet, it translates to less cabling and more convenience for installers too. The new PoE Ultra feature, alongside ACT’s existing integration with Vanderbilt’s award-winning SPC intrusion system, a rules mapping engine, and a smartphone app, simply adds to this concept.

SPC was recently installed at the Maritime Culture Center Gdańsk, Poland. Commenting on the installation, Michał Drobczyński of the Center states: “Due to installing Vanderbilt’s SPC system, the museum is safe. The system meets our expectations in the field of security and thanks to their wireless equipment we can protect the exhibits in the temporary exhibition. Vanderbilt turned out to be a beneficial company in installing and programming the security system.”

Elsewhere, Ollie Law, Managing Director of Oliver Law Security Ltd oversaw the installation of ACT365 at Greenyard Frozen Ltd - a major blue chip, frozen food manufacturer. They required a true cloud-based access control system to replace their existing legacy on-premise solution.

Law states: “We chose ACT365 to specifically meet customer requirements for a true cloud-based Access Control System and App based Fire Mustering reporting. OLS are an approved ACT365 installer, and this is our go-to product for Access Control through the cloud.”
