Get to know Team Vanderbilt: Dimitri Vashakidze

In this segment, "Get to know Team Vanderbilt", we shine the spotlight on our employees that are on the ground each week bringing our solutions in access control, intrusion detection, and video management to our customers. Here, our Area Sales Manager Dimitri Vashakidze tells us how he likes to tackle a problem, how he defines success, why cats are his favorite animal, and why he would love to meet Yuri Gagarin if he could go back in time. Enjoy!

Q1. What motivates you?

My motivation is my customer’s satisfaction. My customer’s win is my win. If you make their business easier, then they will always remember you.

Q2. How can you prevent mistakes or do damage control?

Foresight is my strongest skill, and naturally, this has developed from experience. I try to avoid problems that might come in future by taking preventive measures. Always have a plan B in place. Potential problems and “narrow places” should be looked at in advance.

Q3. How long do you stick with an idea before giving up?

I always discuss my ideas with my colleagues. Usually, they can provide useful feedback on how to turn this idea into a reality. If an idea is not possible to be realized today, it still might be realized in a month, in a year, or in a different place. I do not give up ideas; I put them aside.

Q.4 How do you define success?

For me, success is a result that exceeds your initial expectations.
Dimitri Vashakidze, Area Sales Manager.

Q5. If you could talk to one person from history, who would it be and why?

I would like to talk to Yuri Gagarin. He was a Soviet pilot and cosmonaut. He was the first human to journey into outer space when his Vostok spacecraft completed an orbit of the Earth on 12 April 1961.

Q6. Who has been your greatest inspiration?

My kids are my greatest inspiration. They make my life full of meaning, and I am always content with them. I want them to live a happy life in a better world.

Q7. What book has inspired you the most?

My favorite book is still Martin Eden by Jack London, even though I read it when I was in school. The novel shows that you need to believe in yourself and do what you have a passion for. Then, success will come to you sooner or later.
Dimitri Vashakidze, Area Sales Manager.

Q8. What are your hobbies? What do you do in your non-work time?

I used to play volleyball and online poker, but now I dedicate almost all of my free time to my family.

Q9. What makes you happy?

I am happy when the people around me are happy. This can be spoken equally about my family, my friends, my co-workers, and people in the street!

Q10. What is your favorite animal?

I like cats. They are beautiful and cute.
